One destination, 32 gorgeous Islands. All with exotic names, all with white sand beaches, all relaxed and all waiting for you to experience the Caribbean as it should be experienced. St Vincent, Bequia, Canouan, Petit St Vincent, Young, Palm.. each name evokes images of relaxation, peace and calm, but also of quality, for these idyllic islands do not suffer from the mass tourism of some of their larger neighbours.
St Vincent, the largest, is likely to be your gateway island, after a journey via Antigua or Barbados. The effort of getting here is quickly rewarded as you view the lush rainforest sweeping up the slopes of the volcano La Soufriere, in the north.
These islands are much less visited than their more popular neighbours, Barbados, Grenada and St Lucia and this is perhaps the reason to put this destination on your wish list. St Vincent is the main island with Kingstown in the south as its capital. You can fly here via Barbados, however, there is a new airport opening in 2015 with the possibility of direct flights from the UK. St Vincent is a lush mountainous island with the Volcano of La Soufriere dominating the northern landscape, and the beaches are mainly Volcanic black sand. For beach goers, there is the All Inclusive resort of Buccament Bay on the west coast with imported white sand or the more luxurious Young Island just off the south coast. If you’d like something slightly different to the normal Caribbean holiday then St Vincent might suit you especially if you are a nature lover or enjoy hiking. One of the oldest Botanical Gardens can be found in Kingstown and the mountainous volcanic landscape is a paradise for walkers of all abilities.
The lesser populated islands to the south are the Grenadines. These are made up of Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Tobago Cays, Union Island, Palm Island, and finally Petit St Vincent in the south, which is actually nearer to Grenada than St Vincent. These islands are where you’ll find the best beaches, some of which are the best in the Caribbean. The islands are generally quiet and laid back with boutique accommodation and are a sailing paradise. Each island offers something different and they can be reached by Ferry and the larger islands also have small airports.

When to go
St Vincent and the Grenadines are in the tropics. The warm dry season runs from December through to April and the wetter more humid season being our summer time May through to November time. Although the Caribbean does have a rainy season it is generally sporadic downpours, much of this at night time. Hurricanes, although rare in this region, can happen of course and are more likely from June to September.
