The Northeast corner of the USA, comprising the states of New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine, is collectively known as New England. This region is surprising because although small, it is so varied. You can laze on the beach in summer and ski in the mountains in winter. The rugged coastline contains beautiful fishing harbors and fine beaches, and the rolling hills rise gently into the Mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. You’ll discover delightful villages with covered bridges and whitewashed churches, but also big-city shopping and bright lights. Also, this is the region of the USA where the Pilgrims first landed, so history is also a huge draw for visitors.
New England is perfect touring country. Whether you decide to do this as an escorted coach tour, or just take to the road in a hire-car, with each bend in the road comes new surprises. The small villages are an absolute delight with Inns and B&B’s the accommodation of choice. The people are friendly and the scenery stunning. From Connecticut in the South to the border with Canada, New England is quite remarkable in every way.
Then there is the Fall. Nowhere will you find such a dazzling display of natural colour as the Aspen, Maple, beech, Ash & Cherry trees among others change colour, stretching for miles covering the hills with fiery shades of yellow, orange and red. This isn’t just leaves.. this is nature in all its glorious magnificence, and what lies before you will stay with you forever.
Millington Travel would love you to experience New England, and we are sure you will return with some very long lasting memories.
When to go?
New England has cold winters, and mild to hot summers. January to April is the ski season, and once the snow melts, this region is great for touring, so hit the road any time from May to November. Spring is the cheapest time to visit and July & August are the main holiday season so beaches and attractions are busy. However, New England really comes into its own in mid-late September when those leaves turn the landscape into a blaze of colour.
Food & Drink
New England is the home of the micro-brewery in the USA and they are everywhere, but particularly in the urban centers of Boston, Portland and Hartford. Maple Syrup is also produced here in the very short season at the end of winter. Fish is high up on any menu in these states, and while meat is popular it’s less prominent than elsewhere.
