Islas Canarias. Spectacular volcanic landscapes, palm fringed beaches, resorts of white-washed apartments and fine hotels, with hot nightlife if you want it, and a laid back lifestyle if you don’t. Spain’s Canary Islands are high on most people’s lists of places to go for the sunshine.
Named after dogs rather than small yellow birds, these Islands are dramatic. All volcanic, but each one different.
Tenerife is the largest, dominated by the imposing Mount Teide. Huge black cliffs plunge into the deep Atlantic Ocean but where there aren’t cliffs, there are wonderful beach resorts where you can find fine luxury hotels, budget apartments, and everything in between with entertainment to suit all tastes and budgets whether you like the hot nightlife of Playa de Las Americas or more serene walks along the seafront.
Lanzarote’s scenery is less dramatic and more barren. It looks like it hasn’t rained for years. The coastline gives way to the whitewashed resorts of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen, and Costa Teguise, with plenty of apartments and fine hotels. The interior has a Volcanic National park where you can see rock formations in a moon-like’ landscape.
Gran Canaria has dramatic scenery of its own. the dunes of Maspalomas between the resort of the same name and Playa del Ingles are spectacular and there are coastal gorges and ravines too, with hilly Puerto Rico having grown up in one such location.
Fuerteventura is the second largest Canary Island after Tenerife. Think Fuerteventura, think beaches – there are over 150 to choose from. All scorched under a hot sun. perfect for families, Fuerteventura offers relaxed resorts, but head for Corralejo for some of the best nightlife around if that’s your thing. Costa Caleta is purpose built and has everything for a modern beach holiday, but for a more
La Gomera and La Palma complete this archipelago, both smaller and less developed giving the visitor a real sense of peace and calm.

When to go?
The simple answer is anytime! Purely because temperatures average 22c in winter and 30c in summer. The islands have micro-climates which might affect your decision, for example, Lanzarote can be windy, and the North of Tenerife can be cooler than the south, but these are islands blessed with a fabulous climate so the weather will never get in the way!
